On 8 10 April, Raffles Students Luu Hong Anh and Trinh Bao Ngoc joined International Public Speaking and Debate Competition 2010 (IPSDC) held by London School of Public Relation(LSPR) in Jakarta, Indonesia. This competition applied the British Parliamentary format where the debate competition used the World Universities Debating Championships (the Worlds), the Asian British Parliamentary Debate Championships, Founders' Trophy, and the National Universities English Debate Championships (NUEDC). The goal of this competition which is themed as Building a Common PR and Communication Paradigm in Asia is to be the place for students to think critically, to study democratic processes, as well as to develop tolerance attitude towards others opinion. IPSDC has invited 18 teams from various local universities such as: Binus International, Padjadjaran University Bandung, University of Sam Ratulangi Manado, University of Indonesia, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Yogyakarta and so on. Besides local universities, there were also other participants from Asian countries such as: Cambodia, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam.
The competition was of International standard away from home ground of Vietnam with many participants from all over South East Asia. Our students have a tough competition debating with many very good speakers from many international teams. Though they could not come out to be the winner this round but the new experience and exposure had brought them to a new level. Along with this competition, we hope that Raffles students will join more and more activities onward.
